TRUTHSOLDIER
My Story
I was born and raised in small-town Ohio and grew up in the church. For most of my life, though, I thought being around church meant I was good with God. I knew about Him, but I didn’t really understand what it meant to have a personal relationship with Him. Music was always part of my life. I started playing drums in church around 10, taught myself live sound by watching others, and around 12 I fell in love with Christian rap through artists like Lecrae. I was drawn to the lyricism, flow, and the way the message could be built into the music.
I went to a Christian college as a computer science major because technology came naturally to me, but during a worship night everything changed. While playing cajón and watching the room worship, I had an encounter with the Holy Spirit that made me realize God had given me gifts and wanted me to use them for Him. I switched my major to worship ministry thinking I would become a worship pastor, but eventually left college after realizing that wasn’t how I was meant to pursue music.
In 2019, I released a few songs, but later pulled them down. I started realizing that I wasn’t rooted in Scripture, I still didn’t have the relationship with God that I needed, and too much of what I was doing was about me. I stepped away from rap for four or five years and honestly thought that part of my life was over. During that time, God was teaching me to know Him more and to make anything I created come from His Word instead of just what I thought I knew.
Then, when I wasn’t expecting to return to rap, an opportunity opened for me to work with 1K Phew. I responded to one of his Facebook stories by email, and he sent me a video back saying, “Let’s make it happen.” To me, it felt like God reopening a door. That led to “Set Free,” a song that was rooted in Christ and Scripture instead of myself, and it brought my passion for music back with a completely different purpose.
That purpose became TruthSoldier. I originally went by Truth because I wanted to deliver truth, but I never wanted the name to suggest that I was the truth. Jesus is the truth. TruthSoldier represents who I want to be: a soldier who serves Christ, follows His commands, and carries His truth. My music is raw, lyric-focused, and centered on salvation, truth, life, and joy. I want the words to hit deeper than the beat, and I want everything I say to be honest and rooted in Scripture. More than anything, I want my music to reach people who don’t know Christ and show them that there is real life and freedom in Him. The music is here to set captives free.
